Miami-Dade County’s Black History Month 2012 Events

MIAMI – Residents and visitors to the South Florida area are encouraged to take part in a number of exciting events to celebrate Black History Month 2012. 

  The Miami-Dade County Black Affairs Advisory Board’s Heritage Planning Committee will sponsor several events during the month of February to honor the contributions of peoples of African descent.   Also included are several community sponsored events.  This year’s national theme is:  “Black Women in American Culture and History.”

HistoryMiami and the Black Affairs Advisory Board present a program on the history of Black Aviation; a private tour of HM’s “Aviation in Miami:  The First 100 Years,” recognition of Florida Memorial University’s Aviation Department students, led by exhibition curator Antolin Carbonell; followed by a public presentation and book signing by Von Hardesty, author or “Black Wings:  Courageous Stories of African Americans in Aviation and Space History,” courtesy of the Smithsonian.
