Miami-Dade County Commission Promotes Local Hiring
Miami-Dade County Commission approves resolution to promote local hiring by target industries
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY – The Miami-Dade County Commission on Dec. 6 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz to require that Miami-Dade County residents make up at least 20 percent of new employees hired by new “qualified target industry businesses” that receive tax refunds from Miami-Dade County to bring jobs to the county.
The state’s Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund Program permits tax refunds to companies that create high-wage jobs in targeted high value-added industries and may provide the company with a tax refund of up to $3,000 per new job created, with the state providing 80 percent of the refund amount.
The program requires the creation of at least 10 new fulltime jobs at salary levels equal to or exceeding 115 percent of the state annual average wage, or $41,516.
“Ensuring that at least 20 percent of the new jobs created by qualified target industry businesses go to Miami-Dade residents is a great way to improve the benefits of this program for our community,” Commissioner Diaz said.
