Miami-Dade Commissioner celebrates opening of Little Haiti Multi-Cultural Soccer Tournament

MIAMI – Miami-Dade Commissioner Audrey M. Edmonson showed resident soccer players her own athletic skills at the grand opening of the Little Haiti Multi-Cultural Soccer Tournament at the Little Haiti “Manno Sanon” Park in Miami on Sunday, May 24, 2009.

The tournament is a 10-week event that will feature 32 games with various teams representing Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, Argentina, Trinidad & Tobago, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. The purpose of tournament is to showcase Miami’s cultural diversity and promote the richness of Little Haiti.

“This beautiful park is named in honor of Haitian soccer legend Manno Sanon. I am proud to see that the investment made by both the County and the City of Miami is so much appreciated by all of you,” Commissioner Edmonson said to participants of the tournament. “The park’s soccer facility, along with the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, has changed the image of this neighborhood. Other future infrastructure improvements will enhance the area, thus making Little Haiti a must-stop for tourists and residents alike.”
