Miami Dade College to Host 2016 National Democratic Presidential Debate

Nationally televised Presidential debate at the Kendall Campus is a partnership with Univision Network and  The Washington Post 

MIAMI – Miami Dade College (MDC) will host a national democratic candidates’ Presidential debate on March 9, 2016, at its renowned Kendall Campus, located at 11011 SW 104th Street, in partnership with Univision Network and The Washington Post.

MDC has a long history of hosting US Presidents, major candidates and high ranking elected officials, members of Cabinet and heads of state. In fact, during the last two months of the current Fall Semester, the college has hosted Vice President Joe Biden and His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain at major events with students.

Earlier this year, in unprecedented fashion, MDC hosted the Presidential campaign announcements for Republican candidates U.S. Senator Marco Rubio and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, within a few weeks of each other. Senator Rubio’s event was at MDC’s National Historic Landmark Freedom Tower and Governor Bush’s event was at the Kendall Campus. Moreover, MDC collaborated with Univision Network during the last Presidential election co-hosting candidate forums with Governor Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

In addition to the major politicians mentioned above, some of the current and past national leaders and presidential contenders MDC has hosted include – President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, President Bill Clinton, former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, President George H. W. Bush, President Jimmy Carter, President Gerald Ford, Senator Bob Graham, Senator Gary Hart, Vice President Al Gore, Vice President Dick Cheney, Ralph Nader, Senator John McCain, Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator Rick Santorum, to name a few.

Many first ladies have also visited MDC including Michelle Obama, Barbara Bush, and Laura Bush. The college has also been a stop for major world leaders and heads of state including Mikhail Gorbachev, Yegor Gaidar, Lech Walesa, Jose Maria Aznar, Leonel Fernandez, Andres Pastrana, Alvaro Uribe, Alejandro Toledo, Jorge Quiroga, and many others.

The March 9 debate will take place in the Building 7 Gymnasium at the Miami Dade College Kendall Campus, the site of many important past events including the Jeb Bush announcement, as mentioned earlier, a 2007 Commencement Address with President George W. Bush and a 2014 Commencement Address with Vice President Biden.
