Miami Commissioner and the Mayor’s International Council Welcome Haiti’s Prime Minister Michele Duvivier Pierre-Louis

MIAMI – City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones and the Mayor’s International Council will host a private welcoming reception for Haiti’s Prime Minister, Michele D. Pierre-Louis on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 6:00 PM at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, located at 206 NE 59th Terr in Miami, FL.

Commissioner Spence-Jones will be joined by the Consul General of Haiti, Ralph Latortue, City of Miami Commissioners, Miami Dade Commissioner Audrey Edmonson and a host of other local elected officials. During the reception, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister and enjoy an art exhibit by renowned artist Babacar M’Bow.

“I look forward to welcoming the Prime Minister to the heart of Little Haiti” said Commissioner Spence-Jones. “Having her visit the Little Haiti Cultural Complex is the perfect opportunity to showcase the various programs that we have created for the Haitian–American community in Miami.”

The Little Haiti Cultural Complex is a brand new state of the art facility located in Little Haiti. The newly opened center offers the community the opportunity to participate in numerous cultural activities such as concerts, art exhibits and cultural dance classes.

In addition to the programs at the facility, Commissioner Spence –Jones will also introduce the minister to the various projects that the City of Miami has with Haiti. These projects include: Operation Hope for Haiti, a hurricane relief project that was launched late last year to assist those who were affected by the devastating storms, the City of Miami’s partnership with World Vision and the Wake Up Let’s Keep Port-au-Prince Clean Campaign with the City of Miami’s sister city, Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
