Kingston plays host to President Bill Clinton

42nd US President pays one-day visit to Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica – US President Bill Clinton is slated to make a short visit to capital city Kingston today, October 25, to be guest speaker at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, one of the city’s major hotels. He is scheduled to present one of his inspirational public lectures on the common humanity. This is not Clinton’s first visit to the island, having vacationed with Mrs. Clinton at the prestigious Goldeneye resort previously. Less than a year ago, Mrs. Clinton also paid a brief visit to the island.

In recent weeks, Kingston has hosted a number of high profile events, reiterating that the city, dubbed the cultural capital of Jamaica, is well equipped to welcome groups of varying sizes in comfort and style. Only recently, Kingston hosted the 19th staging of the Caribbean Media Exchange (CMEx) on Sustainable Tourism, where international media, academia and business persons from the wider Caribbean, US and Europe gathered to discuss linkages in tourism.

“Any major event, or visit of an international figure to our city is seen as testament that Kingston is an attractive destination,” said John Lynch, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “The fact that these international bodies host their functions here, and world renowned persons are visiting and participating in activities here is something that we are very happy about. It says to the world that Kingston is a vibrant and happening place which is able to satisfy the needs of a discerning public.”

Kingston is well known as a business and cultural centre and recently earned world recognition for the state of the art business facilities available. Mr. Lynch continued “with the Jamaica Conference Centre copping the World Travel Awards as the Caribbean’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for 2010, it is a further proof that Kingston is a leading resort area especially in the areas of cultural and business tourism.”

It has been reported that President Clinton is looking forward to his short visit to the island and is keen to share his views. The presentation will take place this evening at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
