Judge Darrin P. Gayles confirmed as District Judge for Southern District of Florida
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Darrin P. Gayles as a District Judge for the Southern District of Florida. Judge Gayles is the first African-American to be confirmed to a Florida federal district court in nearly 20 years.
Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement:
“This is a great day for Florida and the Florida legal system. Judge Gayles brings to his new position extensive experience, a strong record of professionalism and integrity, and a well-earned reputation for being thorough. That is why I have supported him for years,” said Congresswoman Wilson.
“Judge Gayles, a mentor in the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project, is an outstanding member of our community. I have no doubt that he will serve with honor and distinction, and that we will benefit from his service as a District Judge for the Southern District of Florida just as we did during his time on the Eleventh Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. Congratulations to my friend, Judge Darrin Gayles, on his historic confirmation.”
