CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN MEGA CITIZENSHIP DRIVE IN MIAMI

MIAMI – The New Americans Campaign (NAC) is an unprecedented, nonpartisan national network of legal service providers who have come together to encourage and assist eligible legal permanent residents (LPRs) to become U.S. citizens.

A consortium of national funders, including Miami’s Knight Foundation, has made an unprecedented commitment to this venture. This campaign is also active in the cities of Charlotte, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles and New York.

On June 22, 2013, the campaign is holding a one-day Citizenship Mega Workshop to process up to one thousand naturalization applications free of charge (excluding federal fees) at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus. If you want to participate as an applicant or as a volunteer, please go to our website: www.citizenshipflorida.org

The New Americans Campaign is supported in this effort by Ya es Hora… Cuidadania Univision 23 Campaign, the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), and the Catholic Legal Immigration Network (CLINIC, www.cliniclegal.org ), as well as by the Miami NAC partners, including Catholic Legal Services, Hispanic Unity, Read2Succeed, Florida International University-School of Law Clinic, International Rescue Committee (IRC), Florida Immigrant Coalition (FLIC), Center for Immigrant Advancement (CIMA), the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA), the Bethlehem Project, and the Miami-Dade Public Schools (MDCPS) ESOL Program.

City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado has issued a proclamation declaring June 22, 2013, as City of Miami Citizenship Day. Major civic and religious leaders will be joining this effort to stress the importance of “living the dream” and helping others attain US citizenship as part of the journey towards freedom and becoming part of our democratic nation.
