KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaicans in the Diaspora, remitting funds to local relatives and friends, via JN Money Transfer, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy will receive a 50 percent discount on fees, from October 26 through November 1, Leesa Kow, General Manager of JN Money Services Limited (JNMS), announced today.
She said the seven-day initiative has been implemented to assist in the national recovery programme following the passage of Hurricane Sandy.
“The discount is geared to facilitate the response to provide assistance for relatives and friends, particularly persons in the parishes of St. Thomas, Portland and St. Mary, who were significantly affected by the passage of Hurricane Sandy,” she said.
The category one hurricane made landfall on Wednesday October 24, resulting in flooding, landslides, and damage to homes and commercial properties; as well as the loss of livestock and agricultural produce. One person in the parish of Portland died when his house was damaged by a boulder.
Miss Kow noted that JN Money Transfer, with its network of branches and Agents locally and overseas, is well positioned to contribute to the recovery efforts. The company has more than 350 branches and Agents globally, located across the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ghana, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
“This initiative which is consistent with the JN Money Services’ values and commitment to Jamaica to facilitate the movement of funds for recovery; and makes it possible for Jamaicans in the Diaspora to contribute to speeding up the local recovery process,” she said.
“We are particularly concerned that school attendance is not disrupted and will support all efforts to facilitate speedy restoration of normalcy for our children” the JNMS General Manger affirmed.
She pointed out that the discount offer was part of a wider ‘recovery effort’ being mobilised by Jamaica National Building Society, the parent organisation of JN Money Services.
The JN Group has mounted a concerted “Recovery Programme” to assist JNBS savers and mortgagors; micro and small entrepreneurs through JN Small Business Loans Limited; and insurance clients of JN General Insurance Company Limited.
