JAMPRO aims to attract high-profile film projects to Jamaica
JAMPRO connecting with international players to attract high-profile film projects to Jamaica
Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) is pursuing more high-level projects for filming in Jamaica, with the Agency recently promoting the country for filming on missions to Latin America, Europe and the United States.
JAMPRO’s Film Commissioner, Renee Robinson said that the Film Commission is focusing on building more global relationships to realize business opportunities for the Jamaican film industry.
Robinson explained that the meeting with Mr. Elba and with Director Joel Zwick in January this year, are part of the Commission’s strategy to directly connect with players in the film industry to encourage filming in Jamaica, which would include not only selecting a location but employment for Jamaica’s film industry.
Ms. Robinson explained, “When productions choose Jamaica as a location, the positive economic impact is felt through employment for local cast and crew, engagement of production services companies, and the multiplier effect on the economy as a whole. To attract more high-profile productions as well as stimulate local industry development, it is crucial that we meet global standards of production facilitation through mechanisms such as production incentives and a film fund.”
JAMPRO promotes export and investment opportunities, advocates policy for the Creative industries and develops programmes to develop Jamaica’s Film industry. JAMPRO is an Agency of the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.
