Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, UK Marketing Team move to consolidate destination Jamaica

LONDON – On the eve of World Travel Market, one of the biggest travel exhibitions in the world, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister Hon. Edmund Bartlett has conducted a number of top tier meetings with London based PR agency McCluskey International, advertising agency DraftFCB and media planning agency Universal McCann.

According to Barlett, “Europe is a fundamentally important market for Jamaica. Visitor figures from the UK have increased consistently over the last five years and Spain, Ireland and Eastern Europe represent important emerging markets. This year, UK visitor figures increased by 12 per cent compared to the same period last year, and in 2006 visitor figures increased by 17.1 per cent, with the UK diaspora being a key component. I believe growth in this market will be key to meeting targets of 5 million international visitors by 2010 and I am confident we have the best of Europe’s marketing and PR specialists on board to help us meet our goal”.

Additionally, during my visit, I will be conducting meetings with airlines Virgin Atlantic, British Airways and BMI, as well as a number of key tour operators and industry partners in order to ensure my vision of increasing winter traffic during the first months of 2008 is realised.

I am here in London as Jamaica’s chief salesman to spread the word about Jamaica, our vibrant people, our world class music, our fantastic food and our love for life.

The Minister is accompanied on his visit by a delegation from Jamaica including: Director General Ms. Carrole Guntley of the Ministry of Tourism, JTB Chairman Mr John Lynch and Director of Tourism Mr Basil Smith. They will be attending World Travel Market from November 12-14.
