The Caribbean Advertising Federation Announces 2008 ADDY Award Winners

ST. MICHAELS, Barbados – The Caribbean Advertising Federation (CAF) President, Emma Saba with Virgo Communications in Barbados, announced the 2008 Caribbean Advertising Federation ADDY Award winners Monday, March 10.

The CAF is a member of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), which represents thousands of advertising companies in the United States and the Caribbean.

The ADDY Awards are sponsored by AAF and are the advertising industry’s most comprehensive and prestigious competition recognizing creative excellence in numerous categories of various media types. This year, 525 entries were judged, making it the largest show in history for the Caribbean.

The coveted overall 2008 Best of Show Award went to Collier Morrison Belgrave Limited (CMB) from Trinidad for the video “Blue Opera” for 3 Canal Group. CMB also took the Best of Interactive Award with “Blue Opera” and two Judges’ Choice Awards for Excellence in Copywriting for “8 ADDY Ad Self Promotion Campaign” and Excellence in Graphic Design for “Art Project in Aid of F.E.E.L.” for Radical Designs Jeans.

Trinidad continued to be well represented by McCann Erickson, who received the most awards overall, as well as the Best of Show Radio award
for “Stamina” for TSTT. Also representing Trinidad was Inglefield, Ogilvy & Mather Caribbean Limited, who took home Best of Show Public Service for their “Live Up Campaign” for Kaiser Foundation.

Lead Barbados agencies were Red Advertising & Marketing Ltd and Virgo Communications, winning 22 and 16 awards, respectively, including a Best of Show award each. Red took home Best of Show Print for “Portico Sales Brochure”, for West Coast Villas. Virgo Communications won Best of Show TV for “Bajan Fuh Real”, for Barbados Manufacturers’ Association.

The judging took place in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, by three of the industry’s top professionals: Mike Weber, former broadcast personality and president of CMR Studios; Tony Pearman, CCO and partner of Access and former national AAF ADDY chairperson; and April Mraz, Creative Director and CEO of Open Creative Group.

All winning local ADDY Awards are forwarded to the District Competition; winners of that competition go forward to compete with the best advertisements from the U.S. and Caribbean in the National ADDY Competition.

The Caribbean Advertising Federation is the first non-American member of the American Advertising Federation and is part of the 4th District of Florida and the Caribbean.
