KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) offer sincere condolences to the family of the Hon. Raymond Chang, OJ, noted Jamaican-Canadian entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist, who transitioned over the weekend.

Mr Chang was one of Jamaica’s finest sons in the field of business and commerce and an icon in the Jamaican Diaspora communities across Canada and North America. He will be remembered as a premier investor in Jamaica, having blazed a trail as the former CEO of CI Financial, one of Canada’s largest publicly traded fund companies.

He won wide acclaim for his exemplary business acumen and outstanding achievements in both Canada and Jamaica, and will be fondly remembered for his remarkable efforts to build and market the Walkerswood brand of fine Jamaican condiments, as well as a range of investments in in a number of companies in Jamaica.

The Governments of Canada and Jamaica duly acknowledged his business contributions by investing him with the high national honours of the Order of Canada (2014) and the Order of Jamaica (2011).

JAMPRO will also remember Raymond Chang as more than just an accomplished business man. “He was one of Jamaica’s most generous philanthropists who lived a life of altruism and humility. He possessed strong character and an acute sense of duty, which he displayed both in his professional and personal life”, noted Chairman Samuda

As a past student of St. Georges College, he made numerous contributions to the school’s all-round development, and by his example inspired countless numbers of Jamaicans in the Diaspora to give back to Jamaica.

The G. Raymond Chang Foundation has distinguished itself by the many initiatives and projects to assist several educational and mental institutions and research centres in Canada.

Raymond Chang’s contribution to the world of business, and his commitment to philanthropic causes and Jamaica’s standing in the world, will remain an enduring legacy for all of us.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire JAMPRO Family, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his wife Donette Chin-Loy Chang, his two children and the rest of the family
