Jamaica’s Prime Minister Golding to Address UN General Assembly

NEW YORK – Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding will be addressing the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York this morning (Sept 26). He will be the 7th presenter in this morning’s session which gets underway at 9:00am, speaking after the leaders of Burundi, Bangladesh, Italy, Nepal, the United Kingdom and Mauritius.

Mr Golding’s address will cover a number of issues including the global environment, globalization and the plight of developing countries, the Millennium Development Goals, challenges facing the middle-income developing countries, global economic governance, climate changes and sustainable development.

Yesterday Mr Golding held bi-lateral meetings with the leaders of India and Turkey during which several areas of international co-operation were discussed. These are to be finalized in meetings scheduled with the foreign affairs ministries and the government of Jamaica.

Mr Golding will continue his busy schedule in New York with several meetings with the Jamaica Diaspora in New York over the weekend before flying out to Washington on Monday for other high level talks with the World Bank and the IDB. In Washington, he will also be meeting with various Jamaican groups.
