CANADA – Jamaican Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Portia Simpson Miller, will be honored by the International Women’s Forum (IWF), by being inducted in the IWF’s 2013 International Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held during the organisation’s Annual Conference, to take place in Vancouver, Canada, on October 18.
The Prime Minister will also be recognised for being the first female Jamaican Prime Minister; for her leadership of the Peoples National Party; and her overall contribution to nation building.
The 2013 IWF Conference, which has as its theme, “Modern Movements: Shaping the World,” will bring together more than 800 leaders from around the world.
IWF Jamaica is headed by Mrs. Pat Ramsay and many female leaders in Jamaica are members.
Mrs. Ramsay noted that the International Women’s Forum is a leadership oriented organisation, which focuses on developing female leaders across cultures and careers worldwide.
“The IWF seeks to connect female leaders from around the world, who have garnered immense achievements in varied capacities,” Mrs. Ramsay said. “The Forum also provides a platform for women leaders to share ideas, learn, inspire and promote better leadership for an ever-changing and developing world.”
IWF Jamaica member, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, Business Development and Research Executive, at Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), noted that in May 2013, the Jamaican Chapter successfully hosted the IWF’s Cornerstone Conference, under the theme, Music: An Instrument for Change, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre. “The event, held over a three day period, was attended by more than 400 of the world’s most influential women from the business, media, music and entertainment communities across the world”.
She pointed out that the organisation’s membership continues to increase, with more than 4,000 women leaders around the world, including countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and North America.
