Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Government Technocrats Meet With JHTA Members

Kingston, Jamaica – Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill and members of the technical teams from the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment and the Ministry of Finance and Planning today met with representatives of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, JHTA, to facilitate further dialogue on the recently announced tax measures.

At the meeting, which was held at the offices of the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment, officials of the JHTA, reported on the recommendations that came out of the JHTA’s emergency meeting, which was held yesterday (May 29). These proposals will be discussed in further details tomorrow by JHTA representatives and the technical teams from both ministries.

Minister McNeill stated that “the meeting provided the opportunity for frank discussion on the tax proposals. The sector was well represented and members of various sub-sectors were able to vent their concerns.” President of the JHTA, Mrs. Evelyn Smith underscored that “we are heartened that dialogue has now started between the JHTA, the Minister of Tourism and the technical teams from both ministries.”
