Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment Expresses Regret at the Passing of Reggae Legend, Bunny Rugs

Kingston, Jamaica.– Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism and Entertainment, the Hon. Dr. Wykeham McNeill has expressed deep regret at news of the passing of lead singer of the Third World band, William ‘Bunny Rugs’ Clarke. This after news emerged today that Bunny Rugs died after ailing for some time.

The Minister said “I am deeply saddened at the fact that we have lost one of our most talented performers, who has left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry and a lasting legacy that will never be forgotten.” Minister McNeill also expressed condolences to Mr. Clarke’s relatives and friends.

In paying tribute to the late band member, Minister McNeill lauded the celebrated vocalist and performer, stressing that “he has made an exceptional contribution to the development of the music industry overall and has been a great ambassador for Jamaica over the decades, thereby helping to build brand Jamaica globally.”

Minister McNeill added that “he has left huge footprints on Jamaica’s entertainment landscape, through his contribution as a leading member of Third World, which is arguably one of the best bands Jamaica has produced to date, and also as a solo act.”

The Minister also used the opportunity to urge young artistes to follow the example set by such great entertainers. He said “Bunny Rugs was a very gifted vocalist and performer who was committed to producing excellent music which has helped to cement reggae music’s place as a recognized genre worldwide. He is a very good role model for young performers and I encourage them to follow in his footsteps.”
