MIAMI – On January 29, 2011, tony Greene gave a command performance at the annual Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival, Greenfield Stadium, Trelawney. The event has become a favorite on the calendar of music lovers from all over the world and Mr. Greene had the perfect platform to showcase the sounds of his sultry horn on the final night; working before headliner Natalie Cole.
Tony Greene’s 7th album “Expression” is the result of a collaboration between the saxophonist and Danny Breakenridge of Upstairs Music. Both parties have a longstanding working relationship and have shared studio and stage engagements on numerous occasions. While on a one week sojourn to South Florida, Tony Green was invited to the recording studio by Breakenridge, where the Saxman was presented with 13 rhythms from the collection of Upstairs Music’s catalog. Over a period of four days, Mr. Greene‘s creative Expression was captured on the album of the same name.
In his own words Greene said, “I found the sessions both challenging and encouraging. I really enjoyed the freestyle approach to the compositions, by going to the studio each day without any pre arrangement or melody”.
The seasoned Greene has over 30 years experience as a professional musician. He started his mission as a young teenager at the Alpha Boys’ School of Music. After graduation, he joined the Jamaica Military Band and studied at the Royal College of Music in London.
The Saxman has toured the world, from Japan to Australia, Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Caribbean as a member of some of the world’s leading reggae bands, and recorded in the studios with most of the great reggae artists/singers. Now, he is pursuing a solo career as a recording and performing hornsman. “Expression” is complimented with vocals harmonies by Shauna and Doug E Mack and it will surely demonstrate the versatility and experience of this gifted and enduring musician, Tony Greene.
