MIAMI – Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT), Dr. Kenneth Baugh paid a visit to the Jamaica Consulate General in Miami on Thursday, October 18, emphasizing to staff the task of the overseas Missions to open diplomatic doors that would create investment opportunities and economic development for Jamaica.
As he visited with staff in downtown Miami, Dr. Baugh told the staff members that he was pleased with the outstanding level of expertise displayed throughout the Ministry, as well as their knowledge and ability to negotiate on behalf of Jamaica.
The Minister cited Jamaica’s geographic position as well as the tremendous opportunities for trade and development and indicated that tourism was one of the primary areas of interest for economic development.
At present, the Minister said that Jamaica was seen as the leader of the Caribbean region. With the Government’s focus on production, he added that we could become an industrialized and productive society.
He reiterated their role as ambassadors urging the Mission staff to also assist in finding investors throughout the Diaspora focusing on the various opportunities to be explored in the country at this time, especially in the areas of tourism and trade.
He noted that Jamaica continues to build bridges in areas of interest with nations such as China and Spanish-speaking countries including Venezuela.
Despite the challenges the country faces presently, Dr. Baugh emphasized hard work and productivity in order to facilitate the expressed interests as well as maintaining positive relations with our diplomatic community.
The Miami location of the Consulate employs a staff complement of fifteen (15) persons, under the direction of Consul General Ricardo Allicock serving thirteen (13) States of the Southern United States as well as the Cayman Islands.
