Jamaicans in Florida Encouraged to Prepare for the RGD’s Visit
SOUTH FLORIDA – Jamaicans in Florida who are in need of birth, death and marriage certificates or any other service offered by the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in Jamaica, are encouraged to take the relevant supporting documents as well as a valid Identification (ID) card to any RGD outreach location. This will eliminate delays in processing applications as well as the need for persons to visit outreach locations more than once.
Although the document requirements are published on the RGD’s website, the Agency is reminding persons who wish to apply for a birth certificate that they need to provide the full and correct name of the child whose birth certificate is requested, date of birth, birth entry number, child’s sex, parents’ names; as well as the place, parish and district of birth and registration. An application for a death certificate requires the name of the deceased, their sex, the date and cause of death, date of death registration, death entry number and also the place, parish and district of death registration. To apply for copies of a marriage certificate, the applicant must provide the place and date of the marriage, bride and groom’s name and also the Marriage Officer’s name.
In the event that customers do not have the birth or death entry number, or Marriage Officer’s name they can request these free of charge well ahead of their visit to apply for the certificates. This can be done by sending a request with the other required details to [email protected] or by calling (876) 619-1260 extensions 6111-3 or 6104.
Persons in need of amendments or updates to their records (such as Correction of Error, Late Entry of Name and Addition of Father’s Particulars) should download the relevant form from www.rgd.gov.jm/documents-and-forms/documents-and-forms and take the completed form with the supporting documents detailed on the website to the outreach location. The application form must be signed in the presence of a Notary Public prior to submission to the RGD.
The cost for all applications, except Genealogical Research is USD $85 for delivery by Jamaica Post within 10 working days or USD$55 for delivery within 4-6 weeks. Genealogical Research is done at an initial search cost of US$30 for 3 hours. The RGD will only accept payment in cash or by International Money Order.
