MIAMI – Twelve (12) Jamaican nationals from the South Florida area will be honored at the second annual Community Service Awards ceremony of the Jamaica Consulate General, to be held on Sunday (Mar. 30) at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Miami.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Mrs. Golding will be the special guests at the event this year.
The honorees will be recognized two-fold:
– for their pioneering efforts and longevity of service to Jamaica and its Diaspora,
– acknowledgement of significant gestures made for the benefit for the development of Jamaica and its Diaspora.
Awards will be presented to persons who have made contributions in communities in the United States and Jamaica in the areas of culture in various art forms, as well as contributing to the development of the Caribbean media, and also rendering support and service in civic and professional capacities, in local communities here and in Jamaica.
Consul General Allicock said that over the years, Jamaican nationals have shown commitment to the development of their homeland, and were deserving of recognition for the dedication demonstrated in their activities relevant to Jamaica and her Diaspora.
At the first event held last March, (18) persons were recognized by the Governor General, Professor Kenneth Hall and Consul General Ricardo Allicock, for their pioneering spirit and perseverance in the development of the South Florida community.
