Jamaican High School plans alumnae weekend reunion in South Florida
PEMBROKE PINES – Graduates of The Convent of Mercy Academy “ALPHA” in Kingston, Jamaica will pour into Pembroke Pines, Florida July 27-29, 2007 to celebrate the Alpha Legacy at the all girl’s high school “Summer 2007 Alumnae Reunion”.
The first of its kind weekend reunion in the United States is attracting Alpha graduates of all ages. “The responses from our ‘simple idea’ have been overwhelming on a global basis.
We are very proud and happy to know that the Alpha family and legacy lives on in our hearts despite distance, time and place,” Adrienne “Addy” Chin-Ogilvie, Reunion committee chair.
The weekend is billed as a time to reconnect and celebrate. Girls are seeking out their high school friends, and people who have not seen each other for twenty and thirty years are anxiously awaiting the events. Many sisters attended Alpha over the years and some are using the opportunity to combine the reunion with a family reunion.
The Reunion kicks off with a beach party, a welcome cocktail reception, a family picnic, a dinner/dance, a mass of celebration and a farewell brunch. The Welcome Cocktail Reception is being held under the distinguished patronage of the Consul General of Jamaica in Miami, the Hon. C.P. Ricardo Allicock.
The events are opened to the public and strong support is being given by other Jamaican Alumni associations in Florida.
All proceeds of the weekend’s activities will be donated to Alpha Academy to create a computer projects room for today’s generation of young women.
The title sponsors for the events are Grace Foods USA, Inc.; Jamaica National Building Society; Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa – Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Other sponsors include Western Union and SuRealty Title.
