The Sports Minister said Asafa had proven himself worthy of the ‘fastest man’ title, having broken his own record with a new time of 9.74 in the men’s 100 metres at the Memorial Van Damme Golden League meeting in Brussels Belgium on Friday (Sept. 14).

“Veronica, Jamaica watched with pride as you won the women’s 100-metre race to become the world champion female at the IAA meet in Osaka, Japan,” Ms. Grange said, adding that the Olympian gold medalist again gave Jamaica cause to celebrate when she posted victory in the women’s 100-metre at the Brussels meet.

“We are confident that you will achieve many more records as you continue on your still young career, maintaining the winning tradition that has made Jamaican athletes famous for decades,” Minister Grange stated.
