Jamaican-American receives “Headliner Award” from National Conference Of Community And Justice

MIAMI – Former Miami resident and CNN Analyst Carlos Watson will be honored this Saturday, April 1, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel as the recipient of the prestigious Hank Meyer National Headliner Award from the National Conference for Community and Justice.

After a rocky childhood at Coral Reef elementary school, Watson, 36, is now a millionaire with two prestigious degrees from Harvard and Stanford universities. In addition to being a lawyer, Watson is a political analyst for CNN and recently landed a Sunday talk show, Meet the Faith, on BET, premiering on April 23.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Watson credits his parents and retired educators Rose and Carlos Watson Sr. of West Kendall, Miami, with his success in life and work. His mother is the former director of international student services and programs at Florida International University who later taught English at Coral Gables High and his father is a retired social sciences professor. His father, born and raised in St. Ann’s, Jamaica, and mother from Cleveland, Ohio, imparted strict rules and values of education to Carlos in his upbringing.

Watson attended Ransom Everglades in Miami on scholarship and later became student body president. He later served as Chief of Staff to Rep. Daryl Jones. After Stanford, Watson worked for a consulting firm, then co-founded Achieva, a college prep service. In 2002, Watson sold Achieva to a Washington Post Co. subsidiary and took leave to travel world before joining CNN.
