Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce trade expo opens May 23 in South Florida

DAVIE – More than 60 manufactures, buyers, distributors, retailers and promoters of Jamaican goods and services as well as local USA companies will showcase their products at a two-day business expo – Buy Jamaican Brand we Love – which opens on Thursday, May 23 at the Signature Grand in Davie.

Jamaica’s Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, Hon. Philip Pauwell will officially launch the exhibition which is also attracting a broad cross-section of USA based businesses interested in doing business with Jamaica.

The expo is part of the annual anniversary activities of the Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce (JAUSACC), Florida launched in March 2003.

In an effort to bring more awareness to goods and services provided by Jamaicans both at home and in the Diaspora, this year, the Chamber is partnering with the Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA).

According to President of JAUSACC, Ms. Marie Gill, the Chamber is working with JMA to seriously partner in the “Brand Jamaica” phenomenon that is becoming quite infectious globally.

During the expo, trade personnel representing companies and agencies and non-profit organization will work with a 30-member delegation from JMA to provide a broad sampling of Jamaican products, as well as financing, trade and technical assistance, partnership and distributorship, and networking opportunities.

Participants will also explore international trade resource assistance and discuss success strategies in globalization from industry leaders.

Other Jamaican service organizations participating will include the Jamaica Trade & Invest (formerly JAMPRO), the Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA), and the Jamaican Business Development Center (JBDC).

Ten Jamaican entrepreneurs and community leaders in South Florida will be honored at the annual installation and awards luncheon of JAUSACC which follows the closing of the expo. The recipients will be recognized for their positive contribution to the Jamaican Diaspora and the USA marketplace, according to President of the Chamber, Ms. Marie Gill, who is also President of M. Gill & Associates, a Miami-Dade consulting firm.

Guest speaker at the luncheon will be Dr. Raymond Chang, Chancellor of Ryerson University in Canada. A Jamaican national, Dr. Chang is also a successful Canadian businessman.

The Jamaica USA Chamber of Commerce was started in March 2003. Since its inception, the Chamber members have been deliberate in their efforts to promote trade and investment within the Jamaican Diaspora, as well as significantly improve international trade activities.

As part of its mission, the JA-USA Chamber of Commerce is also focused on assisting immigrants within the Diaspora to assimilate in the United States. Through the Chamber’s Scholarship Fund, students have been able to pursue studies at tertiary institutions, locally and abroad.

Proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the Chamber’s Small Business Disaster and Scholarship Funds.
