Jamaica Tourism Targets The South Florida Diaspora

FT. LAUDERDALE – The Jamaica Tourist Board in association with Creativity In Communication, Roy Miller of WDJA 1420AM “Bamboo Lounge” program, Mike Aitcheson of WAVS 1170AM radio, Rich Davis of WAVS 1170 AM, Air Jamaica and Jamaica National Building Society are hosting the first in a series of live radio broadcast from Destination Negril into the Jamaica Diaspora starting with the South Florida area.

The broadcast will be targeting nationals in the Diaspora, inviting them to ‘come home to Jamaica for your vacation”, “come back to the paradise which is home.” This first broadcast is being hosted by Point Beach Resort Hotel in Destination Negril.

Five days of broadcast which begins on Thursday, June 18th continues through to Monday, June 22nd starting with Roy “Tenny” Miller and Byron Eggers on the Thursday afternoon show between 4-6pm. “De-Island Beat” program with the “Kool One” Mike Aitcheson of WAVS 1170AM ends the broadcast on Monday, 22nd June between 1-3pm.

On Friday, June 19th the Rich Davis show will conduct interviews with the following persons: the management of the Point Resort Hotel, the president of the Negril chapter of the JHTA, the president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce Mr. Carey Wallace and Dr. Garfield Monroe of the Negril Kool Runnings Waterpark.

The last hour of this show will be a live concert from the beach terrace featuring a performing group from Show Jam Entertainment Company, a cultural group from the Green Island High School along with other well known acts.

Saturday’s broadcast of the Rich Davis Show from noon to 2pm on WAVS 1170 AM will include the hosting of a mini panel discussion to include Hon. Minister of Tourism Edmond Bartlett, Dr. Wyckham McNeil opposition spokesman on Tourism, Mr. Wayne Cummings president of the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, Mr. Godfrey Dyer Chairman of Tourism Enhancement Fund, and Mr. Marlon Hill Jamaica Diaspora representative for the Southern United States. Moderator is David Ellis freelance journalist.

The discussion will be centered around the importance of the Diaspora market towards the effort for sustainable development of the product.

The Broadcast comes against the background of calls from journalist in the Diaspora and an expressed desire by the Minister of Tourism Edmond Bartlett who believes in targeting the Jamaican Diaspora as important partners in the drive to ensuring the sustainable development of the Jamaica’s Tourism Product.

The strategy is that each day of live broadcast out of Jamaica will be carried from a different medium or small hotel, villa or an attraction daily.

The second in the series of broadcasts will be carried from Destination Montego Bay during the week of July 16th-20th
