Jamaica National Building Society appoints Deputy General Manager

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Earl Jarrett, General Manager of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS), has announced the appointment of Carlton Barclay to the post of Deputy General Manager.

Mr. Barclay was formerly the Assistant General Manager with responsibility for Finance, Administration & Planning and his promotion is a recognition of his role in enhancing the financial performance of the JN group, Mr. Jarrett said. Mr. Barclay’s new assignment came into effect on July 1.

“Carlton Barclay is an outstanding financial manager,” Mr. Jarrett stated. “We have seen the results of the initiatives he has led to improve the JN Group’s performance; and we anticipate an intensification of that thrust within the subsidiaries he will now lead.”

A Chartered Accountant, Mr. Barclay’s new responsibilities encompass the management and financial performance of the 19 companies and three Overseas Representative Offices within the JN Group. He also represents the Society in the capacity of Director on the Boards of the subsidiary companies within the Group.

“We have a great team, and we recognize the importance of each subsidiary within the group”, Mr. Barclay stated. “My focus will be to assist in leading the team to achieve growth and improve profitability through various strategic initiatives that we will pursue”.

Mr. Barclay joined JNBS in 1993 as Finance Manager and subsequently became the Financial Controller, before assuming the post of Assistant General Manager. He completed his MBA at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

“The region has to compete with the business communities in huge nations and alliances,” Mr. Barclay told the Caribbean Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountant’s of the Caribbean held in Kingston in June. He said, “It has become necessary for us to adopt first world standards in our Marketing, Finance, Administration and Management Information Systems; and, we also need to ensure that proper governance structures are in place.” Mr. Barclay noted that he intends to pursue excellence within the subsidiaries under his new leadership to ensure global competitiveness.

Chairman of the Current affairs Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica, Mr. Barclay is also a Director of the Road Maintenance Fund of the Ministry of Transport and Works. An avid football fan, Mr. Barclay was the former President of the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association and past treasurer of the Jamaica Football Federation. He is a member of the Rotary Club of St. Andrew North.
