KINGSTON, Jamaica – Shaggy & Friends have gained the support of Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) and JN Money Services Ltd. (JNMS) to raise funds for the Bustamante Hospital for Children, locally and in the Jamaican Diaspora.
Leesa Kow, General Manager of JNMS, said the annual Shaggy & Friends Benefit Concert on behalf of the Hospital, which caters to children from birth to age 12, provides a valuable service for more than 100,000 casualty and outpatients. This year, entertainer Orville (Shaggy) Burrell, is making a special appeal to Jamaicans in the Diaspora, to contribute to this cause, along with worthy projects in the island.
“This is the only full service paediatric hospital in the English speaking Caribbean, and it serves a population of approximately 700,000 children,” Miss Kow stated, “therefore all of us need to give the promotion our support.”
She stated that Jamaica National will donate US$1 to the Shaggy Foundation, for every remittance sent from January 2 to 15, 2014, through any JN Money Transfer (JNMT) branch in New York, Connecticut, Florida, or any JN MoneyShop in Jamaica.
In addition, JNMS, a subsidiary of Jamaica National, will waive remittance fees on donations of JA$2,000 to $5,000 sent to the Shaggy Foundation, through any JN MoneyShop in Jamaica; or, on US$20- US$100 sent to the Foundation at any JNMT branch in New York, Connecticut and Florida, Ms. Kow added.
This promotion is not applicable at any JN Money Transfer Agent, and conditions apply to the transfers.
Shaggy & Friends, initiated the Jamaican singer and musician, has been mounting this fund raising concert in support of the Bustamante Hospital for Children since 2001. Over the years, the hospital has received ventilators, an electroencephalogram (EEG) machine, table top sterilizing machine and upgraded its oxygen supply system, from the concert funds.
The BHC was established in November 1963 when the paediatric ward at the Kingston Public Hospital was transferred to that location. Formerly the British Military Hospital, the facility was handed over to the Jamaican Government after the country gained its independence.
