Jamaica Charity Gala to Honor William Mahfood, Dr. Kevin Coy and Cheryl Wynter

MIAMI  – The American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ ) will host its annual Jamaica Charity Gala in Miami with funds going toward programs in Education, Healthcare and Economic Development in Jamaica.

The Gala will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 6:30 PM in the Grand Ballroom of the Four Seasons Miami (1435 Brickell Ave, Miami).

The evening will begin with an open bar cocktail reception where guests will have a chance to mingle, bid in the silent auction and enjoy the breathtaking intracoastal views. The cocktail reception will be followed by dinner and an evening of entertainment with dancing.

2017 International Humanitarian Award

The focus of the evening will be to recognize the exemplary work of William Mahfood, Chairman Wisynco Group Ltd. who will be honored with the “2017 International Humanitarian Award” for his leadership and unyielding support of philanthropic programs.

2017 Lignum Vitae Vanguard Award

The “2017 Lignum Vitae Vanguard Award” recipients for outstanding achievement and service in the Jamaican Diaspora will be Dr. Kevin Coy, Cardiologist and Cheryl Wynter, Public Information Officer, Consulate of Jamaica in Miami.

“We are proud to be honoring the achievements of William Mahfood, a dynamic leader who lives his life generously; as well as Dr. Kevin Coy and Cheryl Wynter, outstanding members of South Florida’s Diaspora community” states Wendy Hart, President of the AFJ.

The AFJ presented discretionary grants and donor-direct grant awards of over U$239,000 in 2016.

Grantees included Early Childhood Center of Excellence, HEART Institute, Issa Trust Mary Issa Health Center, Music Unites, Pocket Rocket High School Scholarship Program, Rose Town Foundation, Sickle Cell Trust, SOS Children’s Village, Animal House, Breds, Chichibud, Cornwall Regional Hospital “We Care For Cornwall”, Falmouth Heritage, Friends of Hopewell, Gore Foundation, Hanover Charities, JA Epilepsy, JASY, PALS, Project Sprout, and four UWI Bursaries.

The individual ticket price to attend the Gala is $350 or $4,200 for a table of ten. Sponsorship opportunities include a $15,000 Peacock Sponsor, $12,000 Lignum Vitae Sponsors and $8,000 Friend Sponsors.

After-Party tickets are available at $150 per person.
