KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica was a hit at the 2010 World Travel Awards Grand Final Gala Ceremony, held November 7 at the Grosvenor House in London. Jamaica was recognized for the fifth consecutive year as the World’s Leading Cruise Destination and also brought home awards for World’s Leading Beach Destination (Montego Bay), World’s Leading Villa (Round Hill Hotel and Villas), World’s Leading Family All-Inclusive (Beaches Negril) World’s Leading Caribbean Attractions Company (Island Routes) and World’s Leading All-Inclusive Company (Sandals Resorts).

“We’re honored to again be recognized as the world’s best cruise destination,” said Jamaica’s Director of Tourism John Lynch. “These awards reaffirm the Jamaica Tourist Board’s continued efforts in marketing destination Jamaica, and also reflect the efforts of our tourism partners in supplying top-notch offerings for visitors from around the world.”

Triple Olympic and World Champion Usain “Lightning” Bolt sprinted away with the Face of Travel Award, which acknowledges the celebrity endorsement that has made the biggest contribution to the travel and tourist industry over the past year. The world’s fastest man was commended for his role in the Jamaica Tourist Board’s “Once you go you know” advertising campaign and its role in boosting Jamaica’s tourism profile. Bolt beat the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, David Beckham, Kevin Spacey, Rafael Nadal, Kevin Costner and Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickenson to win the prestigious award.
