WASHINGTON, DC – (JIS) Jamaica’s Tourism Minister, Edmund Bartlett has emphasised that it is important for members of the Jamaican Diaspora to work together for the success of not only the tourist industry, but also of the country.
Declaring open the Friends of Trelawny Association (FOTA) Business Expo on May 24, at the JFK Holiday Inn Grand Ballroom in Queens, New York, Mr. Bartlett said, “As we chart a new course for optimum growth in the highly competitive area of global tourism, it is imperative that the various stakeholders, including you in the Diaspora, work to help strengthen the existing alliances”.
“Today’s expo and symposium bring together a range of organizers and people from various sectors to discuss issues critical to investments and tourism and will chart the way forward for development of the parish of Trelawny,” he added.
The Minister pointed out that the survival of Trelawny and, by extension Jamaica, would depend on, “to a great extent, our ability to work together to solve those issues that confront us.”
Among the exhibitors were: The Hampden Wharf Development, Harmony Cove, Jamaica Tourist Board, Jamaica Trade & Invest (JTI), Elmira Duncan’s Bay Housing Development, GraceKennedy, Western Union, Jamaica National Building Society, Paradise Real Estate, Scotia Bank Group, and Jamaica Consulate, New York/Jamaica Information Service (JIS).
