Haitian-American Doctor / Air Force Reserve Colonel Deployed To Haiti

NORTH MIAMI – Dr. Rudolph “Rudy” Moise, a member of the Florida Urban Task Force 1, which includes 75-80 highly trained search and rescue specialists, was notified today that he will be deployed to Haiti as part of America’s response to devastating earthquake that rocked the island nation yesterday evening.

Moise is a physician, attorney and a Colonel-Designee in the US Air Force Reserve. He is also a candidate for Congress in Florida’s 17th District.

“The Florida Task Force 1 has been specially prepared to respond to natural disasters and catastrophes like this,” Moise said. “As the only Haitian-American member of the Task Force, I feel a special responsibility to be a part of America’s relief efforts in Haiti.”

Moise said he would continue his campaign for Congress, but active campaigning would simply have to wait until he returns.

“Being a part of the disaster response effort is literally a matter of life and death. The campaign is just going to have to wait,” Moise said. “I want to be clear, my commitment to running for Congress is stronger than ever but I must put service to America, and helping the people of Haiti, above my personal goals.”

Moise said he had directed his campaign to continue organizing and performing the basic functions of the campaign in his absence.

Anastasia Apa, spokesperson for the campaign, said they would carry on with the campaign while Moise is deployed, but that adjustments would be necessary because helping with the recovery in Haiti is now the priority.

“Frankly, we’re all proud to be working to help elect a man like Rudy Moise to Congress and we will do our part here while he answers the call to help in Haiti,” said Apa.

The Campaign Headquarters in North Miami is a drop off point for water, non-perishables, clothing, and other necessities desperately needed in Haiti right now. The campaign website, votemoise.com, includes more information about where people can donate money to help with relief efforts.
