Haiti Cholera Victims File Lawsuit against the UN

New York — Human rights attorneys representing victims of the deadly cholera epidemic caused by the United Nations in 2010 will be hosting a press conference on October 9 to announce a lawsuit filed against the UN on behalf of victims of the cholera epidemic in Haiti.

The plaintiffs include Haitians and Haitian Americans who contracted cholera themselves as well as family members of those who died of the disease.

Cholera has killed over 8,300 and sickened more than 650,000 since October 2010, when the UN contaminated Haiti’s major river with cholera-laden human waste. The epidemic continues to kill about 1,000 Haitians per year.
