Guyanese in South Florida to celebrate Republic Anniversary
MIAMI – The Guyanese American community in South Florida will celebrate Guyana’s 44th Republic anniversary with a ‘Guyana Nite’ of cultural performances, dinner and dance to be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the Walter C. Young Resource Center, 901 Northwest 129th Avenue, Pembroke Pines, Florida.
This event, hosted by the Guyanese Community of Florida, Inc. in conjunction with the Guyana Consulate in Miami is the second of its kind to be held in South Florida to celebrate the anniversary of Guyana’s becoming a Republic.
Among those performing at the event will be Terry Gajraj, Harold Caribbean, Winston Duggin and The Tempets.
Guyana’s Honorary Consul Ramzan Roshanali says the event has already received commitments for sponsorship from several companies including Macorp, Laparkan, CGX, Dipcon, Banks DIH, Demerara Distillers Limited, Surinam Airways and Caribbean Airlines.
The Government of Guyana and the Parliamentary Opposition have been invited to send representatives for the celebration. A number of local elected officials and members of the Caribbean Consular Corps have also been invited as special guests.
Members of the Planning Committee for the event are Wesley Kirton, Tina Beharry, Larry London, and Leslie Latchmansingh.
Tickets for the event are $25 each and patrons will have the opportunity to partake of some of Guyana’s finest beverages and diverse cuisine. They will also have an opportunity to win roundtrip tickets to Guyana on Surinam Airways and Caribbean Airlines.
