Guyanese American Chamber of Commerce opens Texas Office
Houston, Texas – The Guyanese American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. formally opened an office in Houston, Texas on Friday, April 22nd. The Director for the state of Florida, Mohammed Omar says, “it is intended to protect and promote the interest of Guyanese American owned businesses and help facilitate expanded trade with, and investment in Guyana.”
The new chamber, which was launched in Florida earlier this year, hosted a formal opening ceremony and reception at the International Trade Center in Houston which was attended by more than 50 businesspersons, media and representatives of elected officials. Attendees were given information material on the chamber and about Guyana including the 2016 edition of Explore Guyana.
“The vision of the GACC is to be the preferred Guyanese American business organization for the protection and promotion of the interests of Guyanese American owned enterprises in the Diaspora, those in Guyana with interests and ties to the United States of America as well as US companies doing business with Guyana and Guyanese in the Diaspora,” Mr. Omar told the gathering.
“The Guyanese American Chamber of Commerce is committed to enhancing the competiveness and profitability of its members through the generation of new business and market access; influencing favorable policies and legislation; sharing of pertinent information on a timely basis; facilitating networking among our membership; the transfer of knowledge; contributing to sustainable development and assisting its members with the resolution of legitimate business problems and concerns,” he pointed out.
Among the other speakers at the event were president of the Guyanese Association of Greater Texas Ms. Janet Stephens, former Mayor of Houston and retired City Councilman Felix Fraga, Angela Chen of the International Trade Center, Pandit Ray Narain, Pastor Edson Withers and Wesley Kirton who delivered the keynote address.
