COCONUT CREEK – The head of a Florida-based international relief agency was recently honored for his work to curb hunger, homelessness, and suffering in Guyana.
On December 8, 2008, Guyana Ambassador Bayney Karran arrived from Washington, DC, to personally deliver the award to Food For The Poor’s CEO, Robin Mahfood at the nonprofit’s headquarters in Coconut Creek, Florida.
“I wanted to express the appreciation of the government and the people of Guyana to Food For The Poor for the impact Food For The Poor is making on the lives of the destitute and vulnerable in Guyana,” said Ambassador Karran.

Food For The Poor has been working to fight poverty in Guyana since 1991. The nonprofit has built more than 1,000 housing units there and ensures the daily care of hundreds of orphans. In 2007 alone, Food For The Poor sent more than $39.5 million in aid to Guyana.
