“Protect Them” Gala Scheduled for Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Month
MARGATE – To conclude National Child Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, the “PROTECT THEM” Gala is planned for Saturday, April 23rd 2016 at the luxurious Carolina Golf Club in Margate (3011 N Rock Island Rd, Margate, FL 33063).
“PROTECT THEM” serves to rally South Florida’s diverse populations around an issue that affects all communities. “As an offshoot of the ‘Nuh Guh Deh’ Campaign launched by Eve for Life, a nongovernmental organization, in October 2014 this gala is intended to bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse prevalence and prevention.
Through this event, we are reaching the young, the old, males, females, Americans and members of the Diaspora, because child sexual abuse transcends, age, gender, race and nationality.” said Lavern Deer, Diaspora Nuh Guh Deh Taskforce Chair and Jamaica International Female Football Development Inc. (JIFFD), CEO.
“PROTECT THEM” is being organized by JIFFD with the support of the Dream Team (A group of South Florida based consultants) and the Jamaica Diaspora Nuh Guh Deh Taskforce. Tickets go on sale February 27th, 2016 and can be purchased through Eventbrite. Proceeds will benefit: Eve for Life, Nuh Guh Deh campaign, the Reggae Girlz National Football Program, globally and locally based Kings Youth Baseball Fund.
There will be many activities and programs preceding the “PROTECT THEM” gala. To generate awareness leading up to the gala, Taskforce Members will host a free Nuh Guh Deh Symposium during Black History Month. Participants will learn the facts about child sexual abuse, current trends, hear from victims, and participate in visioning activities that will be formulated into a strategic plan for prevention and subsequent eradication of this worldwide epidemic.
This is not to be an isolated activity, where folks discuss the subject and return to their busy lives, the goal is to bring this very closeted issue to the forefront and mobilize around detection, prevention and treatment.
