KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS) regrets the passing of Christopher Roberts, a former director of three of its subsidiaries, says General Manager, Earl Jarrett.

Mr. Roberts served on the boards of directors of JN General Insurance Company (JNGI), JN Fund Managers Limited (JNFM) and JN Finance (JNF), between 2005 and 2013. He died on October 6, following a long illness.

“He had a thought-provoking perspective on matters,” said Mr. Jarrett, who shared board responsibilities with Mr. Roberts.  He pointed out that the chartered accountant “pushed the companies to achieve their financial objectives.”

Mr. Jarrett added that the former board member was a consummate professional, “who took his fiduciary responsibilities very seriously.”

Keith Senior, former General Manager and board member of JN Fund Managers, said Mr. Roberts “brought his knowledge of accounting into his participation in board meetings. He was someone who always could be relied on to make positive contributions in meetings.”

“Christopher Roberts was not a confrontational person, but he was effective in his approach,” Mr. Senior said, adding that “he was also a very affable man.”

Chris Hind, General Manager of JN General Insurance, formerly NEM Insurance in the period when Mr. Roberts served, pointed out that he was not only a member of the board, but also Chairman of the company’s Conduct Review Committee.

“Mr Roberts was a gentleman who wanted the best for us and was always supportive of our team at JNGI,” Mr. Hind said. “He was calm and kind, and I certainly benefited greatly from his encouragement and wise counsel.”

Mr. Hind concluded that, “he will be missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
