Muir’s latest exhibit opens with performing artists Kristine Alicia and Susan “Dr. Sue” Lycett Davis
FORT LAUDERDALE — International performing artist Kristine Alicia will perform at Fine Art Photographer David I. Muir’s latest collection exhibit, Portraitic Perspectives, which opens February 21 at 7 p.m.
Alicia, singing her reggae soul-style, has opened for reggae-sensation Etana and the legendary Freddie McGregor. Her latest single, “Freedom Fighters,” can be heard on U.S. and Jamaican airways since its debut in November at Red Bones Blues Cafe in Kingston.
Alicia is one of several artists who will join Muir as he kicks off 2015 Portraitic Perspectives: Where Life Is Beauty, a juried show at 1310 Gallery in Fort Lauderdale.
Also performing on opening night is Susan “Dr. Sue” Lycett Davis, whose “Ode to Miss Lou” has put her and her poems on the cannot-miss list.
Muir said he choose Alicia and Davis to perform for guests on the opening night of Portraitic Perspectives exhibit because they have contributed to his artistic journey.
“They have both been consistently with me from the beginning,” Muir underscored. “In addition, they both have new works to share with the audience. Kristine Alicia’s new single “Freedom Fighter” is extremely relevant to work that I do. I revel in highlighting her talent. And Dr. Sue has compiled a new set of poems to put on a CD. It makes sense inviting them, since I am showing new work as well.”
Portraitic Perspectives features Muir’s signature style of making the ordinary extraordinary. Through his lens he
captures an illuminated beauty in his subjects. The photographs, shot in South Florida, depict people and their experiences in life.
The month-long exhibit opens on February 21, at 7 p.m., with a reception and entertainment at 1310 Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Guest Speakers include State Rep. Hazel Rogers, Jamaican Consul General Franz Hall and others.
On display during the show will be 20 works of the 50-piece Portraitic Perspective Collection.
In a collection that features mostly Black women, Muir captures a moment of intense pleasure in the piece “Lovin’ Every Drop,” and reveals a playful moment in “Jus A Lil’ Picky.”
Portraitic Perspectives: Where Life Is Beauty is presented by American Art Initiative and is curated by Muir. Funding for this project is provided in part by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners as recommended by the Broward Cultural Council.
