KINGSTON, JAMAICA –  Jamaica’s capital city is gearing up to provide runners from around the world an exciting weekend getaway during the annual Kingston City Run. Now in its third year, the run will be held on Sunday, March 15. Running enthusiasts can begin planning to take a break from the cold, and hit the streets of Kingston for a half marathon, 10K and 5K run/walk. Organized by the Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association’s (JHTA) Kingston Chapter, the weekend event will also include a carnival fete, a health fair and expo as well as a “carb-up” party.

“Our partnership with the Kingston Chapter of the JHTA has resulted in a significant boost for Jamaica’s capital and we are pleased to partner with them once again for the staging of this remarkable event,” said Paul Pennicook, Jamaica’s Director of Tourism. “During the weekend, race participants will get an opportunity to explore some of Kingston’s historic sights and experience the city’s active nightlife.”

In its bid to continuously grow and develop, the organizers of the Kingston City Run have joined forces this year with Running Events, the island’s leading race planners, and MyLaps, an internationally recognized timing system, thereby boosting the international appeal of the event.

New to this year’s schedule is the addition of the 10K providing a great opportunity for long distance runners. “Over the past two years, we have received several requests about doing a 10K run,” says Nicola Madden Greig, Co-Chair, Kingston City Run Organizing Committee.  “We believe this is a great opportunity for participants to be challenged at another level while still enjoying all the fun the event has to offer.”

An exciting weekend of activities has been planned starting with the Welcome Party at Bacchanal Mas Camp on Friday night, March 13th.  This will be followed with the Health Fair and Expo at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Saturday, March 14th where attendees are invited to get health and medical advice, purchase health and wellness gear and souvenirs throughout the day. The day will culminate with a Pre-Race party for runners to “carb-up” before the big races on Sunday March 15th. The races will be followed by an awards ceremony at Emancipation Park.

Kingston City Run will take participants through the heart of Kingston and past many historic sites including Devon House, King’s House, Vale Royal, Bob Marley Museum, Hope Gardens, and The University of West Indies.

Proceeds from the event will go towards helping the homeless through the following charities: Missionaries of the Poor, Open Arms Drop-in Centre, Food for the Poor, Marie Atkins Night Shelter and Alpha Boys Home.

Accommodation packages during Kingston City Run are available from Altamont Court Hotel, Christar Villas Hotel, Hotel Four Seasons, Strawberry Hill Hotel, The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites, The Knutsford Court Hotel, The Jamaica Pegasus and The Spanish Court Hotel.
