Dazzling Exhibition of Jamaican Artist on display at African-American Research Library
FT. LAUDERDALE – A one-man art show by Jamaican artist Elgo features dozens of paintings bursting with hot, island colors plus a collection of sinuous sculptures on display at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) located at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale through July 24, 2009.
Elgo’s exhibit showcases a wide array of human art forms in a dazzling variety of styles.
Elgo is an artist of international reputation, and is a favorite of the Jamaican Tourist Board and a frequent exhibitor in Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Several of Elgo’s pieces are in Ghana, West Africa at the recently built Black Heritage Museum and at the Marcus Garvey Center in Accra.
Elgo
Elgo was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and educated in England. He is a natural artist. He has exhibited at the Jamaican Consulate in New York and the Jamaican Embassy in London. Elgo is currently the President of the Western Jamaica Society of Fine Arts.
Elgo and his wife, Patricia, are owners of an art gallery in Montego Bay in Jamaica. Elgo and Pat have been stationed in the AARLCC museum next to his paintings to discuss his work with visitors to the exhibit. Elgo is a quiet and gracious individual. “My art is to allow people to look within themselves,” he says, “and see whatever beauty or purpose they might find within.”
