D’ Limers Prepare for 17th Annual Komen Race For the Cure

MIAMI – D’ Limers team of Caribbean businesses and organizations are expected to join thousands of breast cancer awareness supporters for the 17th Annual Komen Race for the Cure at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami.

This year, the team will celebrate the 50th independence anniversaries of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago with the music of DJ Savage Won and Giselle “D’ Wassi One” Blanche.

Participants are encouraged to wear their past Carnival headpieces from Miami Broward One Carnival 2012.

“It’s so important to support Komen because the money stays in your community. Without Susan G Komen Miami, women in south Florida would not have access to free screenings, mammograms and other preventative services. My team, the D’Limers has been a part of the annual Komen walk for nearly 10 years (if not a little more). We come to the walk in our carnival head pieces to celebrate life and also bring awareness to the high incident of breast cancer among Black women of Caribbean descent. We realize that Komen not only makes an impact locally. The organization makes sure that women around the world are empowered to take their health in their own hands,” stated Carla Hill, team captain of D’ Limers.
