Cricket Batting Superstar weds in St. Kitts
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Renowned Cricket world record holder, Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa, wed in St. Kitts on the afternoon of Friday, June 8.
An Honorary Citizen of St. Kitts & Nevis for his recent World Cup feat at Warner Park, St. Kitts, he returned to his newly adopted home to say “I do” to Durban beauty, Tenielle Povey.
The couple selected St. Kitts as the island to exchange their vows for a simple reason. Mr. & Mrs. Gibbs commented, “We fell in love in the Caribbean during the South African cricket tour here in 2005, so we always knew we would get married in this part of the world.” Mrs. Gibbs further added, “St. Kitts was the island we decided on, because the island brought Herschelle great luck when he set the world record. We feel it will do the same for us as we embark on our life together.”
The wedding, held at Rawlins Plantation Inn, was under the guidance of local Kittitian Pastor, Benjamin Brown. Among the small gathering of witnesses to the ceremony was friend of the groom and local Minister of Tourism, Sports & Culture, Richard “Ricky” O. Skerritt. The couple departed for Cape Town, South Africa, Monday, after spending a week exploring St. Kitts including a day trip over to the sister island of Nevis.

Asked to describe the entire experience of getting married on St. Kitts, Mrs. Tenielle Gibbs said, “It was effortless! From the legal processing, to getting my nails and hair done, to the ceremony itself – it all went smoothly and beyond my expectation. We’ve heard of stories where things go wrong in overseas weddings but it was not so here. Every local person we came into contact with was so warm and friendly. The weather is so beautiful in the Caribbean; we had a perfect day and the perfect venue.”
