MIRAMAR – As a long-time Miramar resident, the News Director at WAVS 1170, an avid church attendee and a Miramar commissioner since 2003, I am fortunate enough to hear from a rich variety of perspectives. The varying perspectives allow me to view a situation from many angles, and hopefully arrive at a solution that all can live with.
I know that many of you have been inundated with comments about our city’s recent issues since the departure of Robert Payton as City Manager. And just like all News Directors who are committed to bringing the listening audience timely and relevant news, I want to ensure that you have the facts. I seek to do this because there is a saying that there are three versions to a story: your version, my version and the truth.
For us, the truth of the matter was that Miramar was one of the fastest growing cities in the nation. Our growth was like a company that had a sudden demand for its product. In our case, our product was a better quality of life. To ensure the delivery of our product, we needed to invest in qualified, experienced people who could help the City reach its fullest potential.
Today, our investment has paid off quite handsomely in the form of a world class track, a cultural arts center, three community centers that deliver classes and activities that are tailored to our residents’ desires, as well as, bring to fruition our Miramar Town Center with additional residential and commercial construction to complement our brand new Public Safety Building. All of this took more than bricks and mortar.
It took good people trained to turn vision into reality. Trust me when I state that these types of people are not everywhere.
However, we were blessed with them being right in our own city.
In the end, it is my hope that you do not get pulled into the rhetoric. Certain statements lack wisdom in looking at the big picture and are often jumbled in the minutiae. Take the time to really look at where we are and where we came from. I think you will be very pleased, and realize the truth of the matter is how great our quality of life is in Miramar.
