Commentary With Winston Barnes: Living In The USA
SOUTH FLORIDA – The community that serves as the core of the listenership of this radio station (WAVS 1170AM) continues to lag behind the larger community even at this late stage. One of the most critical areas is the benefits but also the rules and regulations which govern immigration. Questions are asked on the air here on matters that when asked, they are way too private to be mentioned publicly.
Another area of life in this country which has not been assigned the appropriate attention is citizenship and the attendant privilege of voting. Forget about not being political and accept the fact that when you son or daughter ends up in court they are usually facing a judge, with documents prepared by a prosecutor who both run for election!
Your children are in school in a country where you ought to be going to school with them right up to attending classes. Teachers are hard pressed on all sides, with little compensation to show for it. So they have little time to offer the attention you received back home.
And while we are at the above-mentioned activities, work really hard and try to understand that the people you are upset with because of the privileges they apparently enjoy and acknowledge, they sometimes paid some hefty dues.
