Commentary With Winston Barnes: Cuban Adjustment Act Abuse

SOUTH FLORIDA –  The Cuban Adjustment Act abuse has been reported for some time but now it is out in the open and something needs to be done to fix it.  The Cuban Adjustment Act was passed into law 1966.

Cuba adjustment actThe Cuban Adjustment Act allows Cubans to simply enter the U.S. and literally walk toward social security benefit among others. The law was initially meant to react to Fidel Castro’s revolution and to offer succor for the people who chose to depart Cuba starting in 1959.

For some time now we have heard about this abuse but its seriousness is highlighted in a column written by someone who benefited from that law nearly a half a century ago. Miami herald columnist Fabiola Santiago confirms what has been claimed for a long time. Namely that Cubans enter the U.S. quickly sign up for social security, collect their green cards and simply up and return to Cuba. No, that is but a part of the fraudulent activity which is now decades old.

These returned Cubans stay in Cuba, and their relatives, collect a little something out of the social security check and send home the remainder.

In other words, some of the people who hate Cuba and the improving relationship with the U.S. continue to fraudulently collect money, the Yankee dollar, and send it to help those in Castro’s Cuba, and still behave as if Cuba is the very home of Satan himself.

I suspect the Castro brothers know about this as well.
