MIRAMAR – Miramar Mayor Lori C. Moseley is urging City Manager Kathleen Woods-Richardson to bring before the Commission board a plan to hire additional police officers. “I think we have a very hard working, community- conscious police department that continues to wait patiently for new officers. Though the City reports a decline in its crime rate, these efforts are being realized with fewer cops on the street,” states Moseley.
“It is not only incumbent for the City to add officers, but to ensure that we continue on the path of having our police department reflective of our community,” urges Moseley. “I know we have made great strides in this area but we need and must continue to improve.” Moseley believes the City should add 8-10 officers to start while remaining “fiscally responsible.”
The Miramar Police Department recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 65,000-square-foot headquarters, which will be located at the Miramar Town Center. The Police headquarters has been in the development stage for several years after being displaced by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. The newly constructed Police headquarters will also house the City’s Emergency Operations Center.
