City of Miami and CRA to Hold Wake Up Miami Housing and Economic Development Expo

MIAMI – City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones and the City of Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) will hold the Wake up Miami Housing & Economic Development Expo on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. at the Miami Downtown Hilton located at 1601 Biscayne Blvd.

Participants who attend will have the opportunity to meet with numerous representatives from the housing and economic development sectors, as well as attend workshops that focus on: housing, youth entrepreneurship and leadership, small business sustainability, economic development and training sessions for community based organizations. The event includes a free expo, workshop sessions, breakfast and a luncheon featuring key note speaker Robert Moore.

Robert Moore serves as President & CEO of the Development Corporation of Columbia Height, a community development corporation which plans, organizes and initiates affordable housing and economic development projects in the District of Columbia.

Other participants who will participate in the expo as panelists include: John Talmadge, President and CEO of Social Compact, Zafar Ahmed, Director of Development and Loan Administration Division of the Office of Community and Economic Development (OCED), Tom Zuniga, Managing Director of DSG Community Marketing Services LLC (DSG) and Arden Shank, President of Neighborhood Housing Services.

The Wake Up Miami Housing and Economic Development Expo is presented by: Office of Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones, City of Miami Community Redevelopment Agency, City of Miami Community Development Department, City of Miami Economic Development Department, the Collins Center, Mt. Zion Development Inc., NANA, CAA, Carrie Meek Foundation, Bank of America, Center on Nonprofit Effectiveness and the Liberty City Community Revitalization Trust.
