Cities of Lauderdale Lakes and North Lauderdale to host free Foreclosure Prevention and Home Preservation Seminar

LAUDERDALE LAKES – Recognizing that successful foreclosure prevention rests in large part on homeowners being aware of and understanding the multitude of services and resources available to them.

The cities of Lauderdale Lakes and North Lauderdale will host a Homeownership Preservation Forum on Saturday, July 26. The free foreclosure prevention seminar will be held at the Boyd Anderson High School Auditorium, 3050 NW 41 Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The number of foreclosures in our area continues to climb, and Florida is one of the leading states in the country on the number of mortgage foreclosures,” said Lauderdale Lakes Commissioner Hazelle Rogers. “This is why I felt it was important that the City of Lauderdale Lakes find a way to help its residents in this regard.”

In addition to presenting the most up-to-date options available to homeowners facing foreclosure, the forum will include private, one-on-one sessions with HUD approved credit counselors and lenders to help homeowners identify the alternative that best fits their situation and describe the process homeowners can work through to help keep their homes. Other topics will include loss mitigation counseling, reverse mortgages, legal assistance and hurricane-related housing assistance (for Lauderdale Lakes residents only).

“One of the most stressful financial emergencies a person can face is foreclosure on their home,” said North Lauderdale Mayor Jack Brady. “This seminar will assist homeowners by providing them with direct contact to the professional experts who can help with financial and emotional crisis.”

The seminar is also being sponsored by the Broward Housing and Community Development Task Force, the Office of Congressman Alcee Hastings, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s With Ownership Wealth (WOW) Program.

“This crisis affects every one of us so it is essential to help those in danger of foreclosure stay in their homes for the benefit of all individuals, families, neighborhoods, and our city as a whole,” said Lauderdale Lakes Mayor Samuel Brown.

Homeowners should bring their driver’s license, as well as recent mortgage and financial statements to the workshop.
