Chief Secretary of Tobago House of Assembly pays two-day visit to Barbados

BARBADOS – Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA), the Honourable Orville London, recently concluded a two-day visit to the island at the invitation of the Barbados Government.

The visit forms part of an ongoing initiative between the Governments of Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago to foster greater mutual understanding of the fishing industries in the respective countries.

Mr. London was accompanied by a delegation which included Carlisle Jordan, Advisor to the THA Secretary of Agriculture, Marine Affairs, Marketing and the Environment; and Dexter Trim of the THA Division of Tourism and Transportation.

The Chief Secretary attended the official re-opening of Oistins Bay Garden and also undertook a familiarisation tour of the Oistins Fisheries Complex, Morgan’s Fish House and the Consett Bay Landing Site.

The tour was hosted by Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Senator Rudy Grant, and included senior government officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as representatives of the local fishing community.

The Chief Secretary also paid a courtesy call on Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Dame Billie Miller.

His visit follows on from a meeting between technical level delegations of the Government of Barbados and the Tobago House of Assembly held in Tobago in July this year.

It is anticipated, that in the future, there will be similar visits as Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago pursue avenues for closer cooperation in the vital fisheries sector.
